I have a new passion in Irish/Celtic Music. Some of my favorite groups are listed below. I've seen all of them perform live, which is an exciting experience. My favorite would have to be the Glengarry Bhoys who I have seen perform twice! The first time was as Johnson State, which had a rather unimpressive turnout, but the band was great!!!! I missed their Stowe performance, but I did attend Irish Fest 2000 (the 2006 edition), where I saw them perform again, as well as Old Blind Dogs and Hair of the Dog (among others). I saw Empty Hats at the Vermont Renaissance Festival last year (2005). (back to top) Band Websites Here are the websites for some of my favorite Irish Music Bands! Empty Hats Glengarry Bhoys Hair of the Dog Old Blind Dogs (back to top) Favorite Tunes Glengarry Bhoys: I think M'en Va A La Fontaine (Zigue Zon) is an obvious favorite from the Rhoots CD. I have no idea what the song is about, but I still think it's great! I also like Let it Rain from the same CD. Alberta and Maid on the Shore are my favs from Mill Sessions. Old Blind Dogs: I am currently addicted to A Man's a Man' for A' That from the Play Live CD. Bogie's Bonny Belle, The Wisest Fool and Lads O the Fair from The Gab O Mey CD are also some great picks. From Fit? I like Is There for Honest Poverty, Tattles and Herrin' and Come A' Ye Kincardine Lads. Actually, pretty much any of the songs they sing that have words I like. Hair of the Dog: Great songs on the At the Parting Glass CD are Mary Mac, Big Strong Man and The Parting Glass. Ok, I actually really like the whole CD; what a great collection of Irish folk music, as well as some newer songs, including American Pie. Release the Hounds features several great traditional Irish songs including The Wild Rover, The Wild Colonial Boy and Tim Finnegan's Wake. I'm curious to see the Barley Mow song in action; none of my friends are willing to try it out!!! Empty Hats: My favorite song by Empty Hats is The Hat Came Back song on the CD of the same Empty Hats name. I also like like Two Magicians and Beggars to God.
